Media Design is a cross-media course of study in the area of tension between art, culture, science and business. Media designers create high-concept design solutions, trade fair displays, multimedia productions, user-friendly interfaces. Media designers develop visionary corporate and product brands, exhibition concepts, immersive media, multimedia scenography.
The Media Design degree program focuses on the development and realization of independent and applied projects in the individual modules. The Media Design program combines strategic creativity, mature design-artistic creativity and contemporary software-apparative creativity (including the latest technical developments such as AI) in a practical way. An important aspect is also the consideration of current and historical media developments as well as the training in future-oriented design methods.

Your Program
The courses in semesters 1-2 initially focus on the fundamentals of pictorial design in the discourse of classical and modern media. (Synthesis of traditional and modern media).
In semesters 3-7, the focus is on strategic creativity with the development of cross-media research projects from the fields of art, culture, science and business and a national or international practical semester.
Your Study Content
At mdh you will learn:
- Fundamentals of Design: visualization, semiotics and design, type and typography, photography and electronic imaging, fundamentals of interaction, fundamentals of moving image. Design and media discourse
- Strategic design: Brand design, UX design in communication, corporate communication, motion design in communication media, interaction in space, motion design in virtual worlds, project management, industry expertise, media and copyright law
- Cross-media project work in a team (optionally with project partners from practice)
Once you graduate, you will leave the university with not only a lot of know-how, but also with a professional portfolio which you can use to convince your new employers of your talent and skills.

Enrollment Requirements
- Higher Education Entrance Qualification (Abitur) or equivalent diploma, i.e. IB or A-levels (check with our counseling department whether your diploma qualifies)
- English skills. Language proof: TOEFL IPT: 543, TOEFL IBT: 74, IELTS (Academic): 6, Cambridge FCE: B2, PTE Academic: 59, IB Diploma: English A or B at HL or SL, BI 'English Language Proficiency Exam': PASS. We also accept Duolingo.
Information for applicants from abroad: You have the possibility to check your international certificates independently in advance via uni-assist and to inform yourself about the requirements for your admission: TO UNI-ASSIST
Your personality and talents are more important than top grades!

Tuition Fees
- Campus Berlin: English language program: EU citizens: 4.110,00 EUR/Semester | Non-EU citizens: 6.300,00 EUR/Semester
- Campus Düsseldorf: German language program: EU-Citizens: 4.068,90 EUR/Semester | Non-EU citizens: 6.300,00 EUR/Semester
- Campus München: German language program: EU-Citizens: 4.068,90 EUR/Semester | Non-EU citizens: 6.300,00 EUR/Semester
For all courses we charge a one-time registration fee of 490,00 EUR and a one-time examination fee of 1.050,00 EUR.
For non-EU citizens, the one-time examination fee of 1.050,00 EUR is included in the tuition price.
In case of prepayment (semesterly, annually, completely) the tuition fees can be reduced by up to 5%. (This discount is not compatible with early registration discounts).
