This week, our Fashion Management students left the lecture hall behind and headed out for a field trip to the TextilTechnikum Mönchengladbach. The course visited this unique institution, where textile history is not only displayed but brought to life.

During a guided tour, students were able to trace the development of textile production over several decades: from traditional hand looms to highly advanced air-jet weaving machines. The TextilTechnikum brings together around 150 historical and modern textile machines and is internationally recognised as a one-of-a-kind collection.

Anyone aiming to manage fashion today needs a solid understanding of where materials, processes and technologies come from and how they continue to evolve. This is exactly where the TextilTechnikum builds a bridge between past and future. The visit offered a valuable change of perspective, deepened theoretical knowledge and sharpened students’ understanding of textile production processes.
