What do you learn in an IT degree specialising in Web Development?

You will learn how to design, programme and test complex web applications and software systems from the ground up. The curriculum includes IT fundamentals, Advanced Web Scripting, mobile technologies, agile project work and data security.

Do I need programming knowledge before starting the programme?

Specific prior knowledge is beneficial but not mandatory. More important are your technical understanding, analytical thinking and motivation to independently familiarise yourself with logical processes and programming languages.

Is Web Development more technical or creative?

Web Development combines both worlds. The foundation lies in technical software engineering (backend, databases and APIs). However, through the integration of modules such as graphic design, motion graphics and usability engineering, the programme also has a strong creative and design-oriented component.

What is the difference between Web Development and traditional Computer Science?

While traditional Computer Science often remains highly theoretical and mathematically abstract, the Web Development specialisation at mdh consistently focuses on developing modern, market-ready web concepts, mobile apps and cloud-based software solutions for practical application.

Will I learn both frontend and backend development?

Yes. The programme follows a holistic full-stack approach. You will qualify for both client-side frontend development (user guidance and design) and server-side backend development (data management and system logic).

How hands on is the program?

The programme has a very strong practical focus. Its core consists of five consecutive project modules, where you directly apply your theoretical knowledge to solve real industry challenges.

How long does the IT degree with a Web Development specialisation take?

The standard duration of the IT degree specialising in Web Applications and Software Development is seven semesters when studied full-time.

Is there an NC or are there special admission requirements?

No, there is no NC (numerus clausus). You need a general higher education entrance qualification, a university of applied sciences entrance qualification or an equivalent qualification. Thanks to Section 11 of the Berlin Higher Education Act (BerlHG), studying without an Abitur is also possible through a subject-specific qualification pathway. Good English language skills are also required.

Which professions can I pursue after completing the IT Bachelor's degree?

Career opportunities include roles such as Web Developer (Frontend/Backend/Full-Stack), Software Developer, Cloud Engineer, UX/UI Designer or IT Project Manager – both in the private sector (e-commerce, agencies) and in the public sector.
