Fashion Management in Düsseldorf at mdh

Where fashion, business and creativity come together
Fashion is more than clothing. Fashion is about brands, markets, communication, consumer behaviour, product development and entrepreneurial thinking. This is exactly where the Fashion Management (B.A.) degree programme at mdh comes in.
At the Düsseldorf campus, students learn how creative ideas become viable concepts, products and brand strategies. The focus is on combining fashion knowledge, management skills, trend analysis, brand management, project work and business management.
The projects in Fashion Management show how practical the degree programme is: students develop collections, analyse target groups, plan assortments, work with trend and market data, develop branding concepts and reflect on their work from an academic perspective. It is not just about creating attractive results, but about understanding how creative decisions in the fashion industry can be justified, planned and implemented successfully from a business perspective.
A particular focus is placed on combining creativity and business. In projects such as Collection Development, Creative Process and Project Management or Project Brand, students develop skills that are relevant for careers in Fashion Buying, Product Management, Brand Management, Marketing, Retail and Social Media.
Previous projects in Düsseldorf also show the range of the degree programme: from innovations in the fashion industry and Clothing Product Lifecycle Management to digital fashion marketing and insights into companies in the industry.

Von der Trendanalyse zur eigenen Kollektion
Students develop their own assortment and collection concepts in the “Collection” project.
How does a commercially successful fashion collection come about? In the Fashion Management (B.A.) degree programme at mdh Düsseldorf, students explore exactly this question – practically, analytically and creatively.
In the “Collection” project, students take on the perspective of a Product Manager or Fashion Buyer at a vertically integrated fashion company. They go through the process from the initial trend analysis to the finished collection concept: Which colours, materials and silhouettes suit the target group? Which product groups should be developed? How is a collection structured, planned and managed from a business perspective?
At the beginning, students analyse international trends, colour worlds, materials as well as social and economic developments. Based on this, they define target groups, develop positioning and brand direction, and use these insights to create a coherent collection concept.
The next step is to create moodboards, colour and material concepts, product ideas and collection framework plans. Students plan, among other things, product groups, number of items, delivery dates, price ranges and assortment components. This shows how closely creativity, market analysis and business thinking are connected in the fashion business.
A particular focus is placed on the commercial management of collections in a retail context: students calculate selling prices, determine merchandise values and analyse how pricing architecture, assortment breadth and sales performance interact.
The project shows: Fashion Management at mdh is not only about understanding fashion, but also about thinking about fashion from an entrepreneurial perspective.
