ADC Talent Award 2024: Golden Nail for Game Design & Award for Digital Film Design

11.06.2024

In 2024, Mediadesign Hochschule again won a Golden Nail and an award at the Talent Award of the Art Directors Club (ADC). The speciality: The game design team from Munich made the previously impossible possible; for the first time in the history of the ADC, a Golden Nail was awarded in the Games category!

We proudly present the winning teams from our Game Design and Digital Film Design programme and give special thanks to the professors involved, who teach and challenge our students to create trailblazing games, films, products and art.

Golden Nail in the category Games: Light is Key

The team, consisting of Xenia Semilovsky, Joshua Lutz, Florian Kirmaier, Elian Büchtemann, Jin Ristic, Fabiola Wörter and Jiro Yoshioka, created a mysterious world of vampires with the 3D physics-based first-person puzzle game as part of a semester project in the Game Design degree programme. In Light is Key, you move, turn and tilt mirrors to redirect the beam of light and manipulate light reflections.

Comment by the ADC jury

"With its game idea, atmosphere, user experience, consistent design, sound design and flawless functionality, this - mind you - term paper puts everything in the shade!"

By winning the Golden Nail, the team can now sit on the ADC Talent Award jury for five years and select the young designers of tomorrow. For the students from the 3rd and 7th semesters, it's all still a bit surreal - from the award ceremony in front of over 1000 people to the ADC Membership, which entices with exciting events, networking opportunities and the jury seat.

Award for Sjena Noci's final thesis in the "Animation" category

The animated short film Sjena Noci, which was created as part of the bachelor thesis by Marcel Schadt, Julia Capko and Yurii Riepin in the Digital Film Design degree programme, also received an award. A young man is travelling in a small camper van in the Mediterranean region and stops for the night in an idyllic but deserted village. When the sun goes down, the peace and quiet is disturbed by a monster... But see for yourself:

What is the ADC Talent Award?

The highlight of the annual ADC Festival is the ADC Awards Show and the presentation of the ADC Talent Award. Here, young creatives are honoured for exceptional achievements in the fields of communication and design and thus receive a valuable springboard into the creative industry. The ADC jury not only presents awards, but also recognises the most outstanding communication solutions of the young talents with the coveted bronze, silver and gold nails. We would like to thank the jury for recognising the work of our students! This honour builds on last year's successes and shows that the Mediadesign Hochschule is a first class training ground for creative talent.
